Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 in the home of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer was one of the first Roberts to settle in Atlanta. She inherited her father's interest in the theatre at a young time. When he was studying at Emory University in 1952 he was a part of productions at Emory University and in Atlanta. In 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi, he appeared in a play with Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their son, Eric Anthony, was born in 1956. Walter was enrolled in Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In 1957 they left the airforce and Walter began studying at Tulane. Walter began his work at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter along with Betty Lou began producing a television show for children in Georgia, Decatur called Bum Bum and His Buddies. They financed the production themselves. The following year, they started the Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for a period of six years. They had two more kids Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in the year 1965, in 1965 and Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
